ReportsOver the last twenty eight years Project Discovery has impacted countless students in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Currently offered through 19 local Partner Agencies and 3 pilot programs, Project Discovery works with and assists students from predominantly low to moderate-income households, who are potential first generation post-secondary education attendees. Stressing the importance of education to these students, Partner Agencies provide workshops to improve basic skills (e.g., study skills, financial planning, etc.) and educate students on the process of completing applications (admission and financial aid) to post secondary institutions. As a result, a greater number of students who would not have gone on to post secondary education have elected to continue their education. Funding is provided to Partner Agencies through contracts with Project Discovery’s administrative office, which provides technical assistance, training, fiscal and program monitoring and overall program administration. Project Discovery’s program funding is primarily through the Virginia Department of Education and leveraged with a 100% matching requirement. This report covers a number of items — a brief history of Project Discovery including funding, statistical data on program results, and a short narrative on the impact of the program for FY 1997-2006. 9 Year Powerpoint Presentation in Flash or PDF format |
